It is with great joy that I announce the Atlantic-Pacific Tang Soo Do Foundation's first ever grant award for $1,000 dollars to Sister Kathleen Navarra, Sam Dan who is chief instructor of V-Town Family Karate in Vredenburgh, Alabama.
V-Town Family Karate began September 2010 with 2 students. It has grown to 13 students and is quickly approaching 20. The program serves at-risk children in a very disadvantaged area in the southern part of Alabama. No tuition is charged and in fact the program started out in a single wide trailer and then moved to the community center which requires transportation for the students. Next month, the program will move into a new building in the "Quarter", within walking distance of people's homes. I should also mention that V-Town Family Karate is the only integrated sport activity in the immediate area.
The Atlantic Pacific Tang Soo Do Foundation is a Non-Profit (501C3) organization centered on serving the community and dedicated to sharing how the martial arts and Tang Soo Do in particular can change lives for the better no matter the background or status of an individual.
